Forest School

Forest School is a wonderful way to learn in an outdoor setting. The concept originated in Scandinavia and was brought to the UK in the early 1990s. Since then it has been highly successful and has rapidly developed; it is now taught across the country.

Forest School improves children’s confidence, motivation, physical development and language. Children also develop social skills, learn how to use tools safely and manage risks. Learners experience the elements and gain knowledge and understanding about the natural world. Activities include making dens, creating environmental art and cooking over a fire. Adults supervise all activities and clear safety rules are adhered to. Forest School takes place in a variety of weathers and in all seasons. The motto is ‘There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing!’

We have a dedicated Forest School area on the school site and a trained Forest School leader. Children in the EYFS attend weekly sessions and we aim for Key Stage One and Two pupils to benefit from this provision at different stages throughout the year. Forest School enriches the curriculum and supports the holistic development of children.
