School Meals

Why should I choose a school lunch for my child?

Twelve15 provide the meals at Manorfield and they currently cook meals on site in over 300 schools across the county.

Research carried out by the School Food Trust shows that children who ate a nutritionally balanced meal at lunch time were more alert and over three times more likely to be 'on-task' working with a teacher after lunch time, than those who didn't. In addition research carried out by Oxford and Essex universities showed children eating healthier lunches do far better in tests and absences through sickness dropped by around 14%.

Children joining us for lunch will also:

· Benefit from eating with others

· Enjoy relaxing with their friends

· Develop tastes for different foods

· Have the confidence to make choices

· Take part in fun initiatives that encourage children to think about diet and lifestyles

All our menus adhere to the Government's Nutritional Standards, and we take care to limit the amount of salt we use in our menus

· Whenever possible we ovenbake foods to reduce the fat content in our dishes

· Where possible we use low fat and low sugar recipes

· We do not knowingly use products containing Genetically Modified Foods

· We do not use meat products that contain mechanically recovered meat

Special dietary requirements

Your child's special diet needn't prevent them from enjoying a healthy and tasty school lunch with their friends. We can provide tailored school meals for children with special dietary requirements or medically related diets.

If your child has any allergies, intolerances or religious requirements and would still like to enjoy our freshly prepared school meals, then we need to ask you to fill in a form for us, so that we can ensure your child has a Special Menu just for them! Please do not include your child's dislikes or food preferences on the form as we cannot tailor our Special Diet Menu's to these requests.

Please contact the school office who will be happy to help you, or alternatively download the special diet form and return it to us.

School meals are provided free to children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. These are called Universal Free School Meals.

Children in Nursery, Pre-school and KS2 are required to pay for meals. We take cash at the school office, or you may pay online using a credit or debit card. Please note that your bank statement will display WWW.SURREYCC.GOV.UK for these payments.

Free School Meals

Does your child qualify?

Your child may be able to get free school meals if you get any of the following:

  • Income Support
  • income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit - if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)

Children who get paid these benefits directly, instead of through a parent or guardian, can also get free school meals.

School meals will give your child a real appetite for learning and help them to achieve their full potential and have better concentration in class.  If your child is eligible it means they can enjoy delicious, healthy meals without the bills and the fuss of making packed lunches. Many children at our school are already eating free schools meals, and your child may be able to have them too. Make sure you're not missing out. Contact the school office for more information.
